My then fiancée, now hubby Chris, is half Spanish. So, coupled with the fact that we both didn’t want to get married in cold, old Blighty, we set our sights on Spain and to be more specific, the Malaga region, as our wedding destination.
After much searching and mostly using the trusty World Wide Web as both of us are based in Brighton, UK, we hit upon a hidden gem. The wonderful rustic, chic Rancho Del Ingles near Alhaurin de la Torre in Spain. We first visited the venue during a refurbishment – although Chris wasn’t sold on the mud and digger that was soon to be replaced with a fabulous garden and pagoda where we would tie the knot I could see the potential!
With the venue booked we knew that we wanted a relaxed, informal ceremony that would go with the holiday vibe our 105 strong guests were feeling. We discovered Natasha, the truly amazing Humanist Celebrant who designs wedding ceremonies that are completely unique and which are a true reflection of the bride and grooms characters and personalities. We asked 3 of our friends to do surprise readings during the ceremony, when I say surprise, we had no idea what they were going to read – so it could have gone one of two ways! One of our friends Ian created his own poem based on the two of us which was really unique and personal.
As our guests mingled during the welcome Sangria drinks and canapés , two Spanish guitarists really captivated the Mediterranean atmosphere. As we weren’t having the wedding in our stomping ground of Brighton we decided to introduce elements of Brighton into our day with personalised Brighton rock as our favors, table names of areas in Brighton and pebbles painted with guest’s names for each place setting. Being in Spain with its wonderful balmy Mediterranean evenings and as is the tradition there, our guests could party till the early hours of the morning…and they did!
